Malta

View all Hotels

With ruins older than Egypt’s pyramids, Malta really is ‘the open air museum of the Mediterranean’. The magical city of Valetta and the ancient Hypogeum are absolute must-sees, but if beaches and irresistible sea are more to your liking, this small, sun-drenched island has everything you’re after.

The majority of Malta is dry and rocky, but the coast is lined with secluded bays and sandy beaches, lapped by vivid turquoise water that screams to be swam in. If you can drag yourself away from the picturesque coastline, you’ll find the ancient sites scattered all over the island’s interior – more often than not dotted between cute villages of honey-coloured houses.

Hollywood has been the most recent advocate of Malta’s seductive charms. The rugged landscape and brilliant blue sky provided the likes of Brad Pitt and Orlando Bloom with a dramatic backdrop for Homer’s Greek tragedy, ‘Troy’.
